In 1968 General Motor's New Look "Fishbowl" was nearing a decade of existence but was still widely regarded as cutting edge, as evidenced by the 15 additional years of production that followed. CyRide 869 is a 35 foot, 96" wide version originally built for Long Beach, CA. It does not have A/C, but does feature relatively modern spring brakes and power steering.
The Long Beach Transportation Company, succeeded by present day Long Beach Transit, was formed to serve the area around Long Beach, California. After its useful life in Long Beach was complete, 869 was sold to CyRide in Ames, Iowa, a student run operation for and by the Iowa State University.
